Out On the Town

Updated: Jun 25

We started the day off by going to the Eastern Market to see if we could find some vegetables and fruits that we could bring back to the dorm. Once we had arrived at the market, my expectations were blown out of the water! There were so many stands with such a variety of goods for sale it was reminiscent of the remates we had back at home. As we walked along the roads on every side, there were stands that drew your gaze in, and I passed by each, holding myself back from buying what I found to be the most interesting. Eventually, we found ourselves by all of the food stands, and describing the enticing aroma of this place in words would not do it justice at all. I got an amazing agua fresca and left to go and find where the farmers market portion of the stands might be. In doing this I found myself inside of a giant brick building that was like a supermarket of deli shops and fruit stands! It was here that I got one of the best sandwiches I've had since landing in D.C., and right next door was an entire row of stands with fresh produce! I walked around and ended up getting a few pounds of peaches but didn't decide on anything else because my roommate and I weren't sure how we would get everything back to the dorm.

From here, the other interns and I left for the dorms to drop off our things and made our way to the National Air and Space Museum! Virginia was able to get us tickets to the museum as her last gift before parting ways with us as well. We all gave her a huge hug as we said goodbye and made our way in. As we walked through the museum, we got to see amazing models of different aviation machines all through the building, and we were entranced by the amazing historical facts about everything we found! It was so fascinating being able to see the history behind the massive machines that I had only ever seen photos of, and it was even more amazing being able to see it all firsthand. Towards the end of the adventure, we stopped at the gift shop and I had to stop myself from buying anything remotely related to science! But after leaving with a few things, we got back to our dorms and got a good rest.
